Keynote session by Associate Professor Nick Zepke

Really interesting engaging session. Nick’s paper will be published by the FYHE group soon, so I’ll keep this short. Nick reaffirmed that student engagement has a big footprint and that student engagement equals success. Engagement leads to improved academic outcomes and progression, and better opportunities after completion. However, he said that it was a complex construct and there was no one precise engagement pedagogy. Rather, he details eight practical propositions (please see his forthcoming publication for all 8).
Nick highlight that engaging is something the student does – but facilitating that engagement involves student-centred teaching practice. He also emphasised learning the generic ideas but acting to suit your own context.
